  2. LOGIC - THE LOYAL ONTARIO GROUP INTERESTED IN COMPUTERS

  5. LOGIC is Canada's largest APPLE User Group, and is centred in Toronto with members who reside in all ten provinces.  It was formed in 1979, and until 1982 was known as 'APPLE-Can'.

  7. LOGIC was founded as an educational society to further the use of microcomputers, and accomplishes this in a variety of ways.

  9. A regular publication is mailed out to members, containing information about APPLE computer hardware and software.  This publication, called the Maple Orchard, is aimed at all levels, and has information for both new users and those who are more technically minded.

  11. In the Toronto area, monthly meetings are held which are attended by 200 to 400 persons.  Special speakers are invited, and software demonstrations are given.  Question and Answer sessions are also held at this time.

  13. Also, meetings are held by the Special Interest Groups, or SIGs.  These are smaller groups of APPLE users who meet to discuss areas of mutual interest, such as the use of APPLE computers in education, medicine, handicapped environments, stock market, etc.

LOGIC boasts a large collection of public domain software, which can be obtained by a member at a nominal charge (usually $5.61 per disk).  Over 200 disks are available, and include programs under DOS 3.3, ProDOS, Pascal, CP/M, SOS and Forth.  As well, programs for the Macintosh have been added, to support the growing number of Mac owners.  (This disk is an example of the quality of the software that is available.)

Each month, a special bulk purchase is arranged, through which the membership is able to obtain special hardware or software at reduced prices.  Popular purchases in the past have included modems and the APPLE ProDOS manuals.  And of course, disks are available at reduced prices in both 5 1/4" (APPLE II) and 3 1/2" (Macintosh) formats.

  19. Many members have found that making use of a special purchase offer or buying disks have resulted in savings that have more than offset the cost of a yearly membership in LOGIC.
